Newport to Reef Point

Depending on how you count, there were between 5 and 10 Ckfers on today's paddle. Dennis, Bob, Kathy, Henry, and Ken launched at 8 AM sharp from the Coast Guard beach at Newport. Pete was in the parking lot unloading his boat and didn't know about the scheduled paddle. Fog was half expected but visibility was good and the seas were calm. The plan was to paddle close to shore so Dennis could try out his Valley Avocet in the rocks. As we round the end of the south jetty, we found Howard lurking in the rocks. He was either trying to avoid detection or trying to touch a starfish. Regardless, we convinced him to join us on our way to Reef Point.
Our first stop was to check out a large boat anchored off the Corona Del Mar beach. The boat had www.expedition.com stamped on the side and Mr. Google says they do specialized tours all over the world.
Either the boat had been abandoned or everyone was asleep but nobody came out to greet us. We kept up our leisurely pace and kept real close to shore. This day would have been a good day for a newbie to get their feet wet. Scratch that. I mean paddle.
We made in to reef point and Howard and Pete continued southbound. Howard had launched from yet another "Secret Beach" and Pete continued south to an unknown destination. After a short break, we headed back. David and Sharon met us in the parking lot, obviously eager to hear about our adventure.
We cleaned up and headed to the Fireside where Mark showed up to participate in the debriefing.
So Pete, Howard, David, Sharon, and Mark all joined our paddle in some way. Another great day on the water.
