Description:
Paddling in the harbor channels is ideal for beginning paddlers who keep an eye out for boat traffic. The round trip up the Los Angeles Main Channel to the Vincent Thomas Bridge past Ports O' Call Village and back quite scenic and is Tour LA7 in Robert Mohle's "Adventure Kayaking Trips from Big Sur to San Diego". Paddling around Point Fermin provides access to kayak surfing, rock gardens and open ocean touring along the sea cliffs of Palos Verdes Peninsula for the more experienced paddler.
Directions:
Take the Harbor Freeway, I-110, south to its end turning left onto Gaffey Street. Drive south on Gaffey 1.4 miles to 22nd Street. Turn left travel east two blocks to Pacific Avenue and turn right. Travel south on Pacific 0.9 mile to 36th Street / Stephen M. White Drive turn left onto Steven White and continue until you see the parking pay booth on a wye to the left. There is a $7.00 parking fee. Park to the south to launch into the ocean or to the east in the big lot to launch into the Los Angeles Harbor.
