Description:
Listed as "LA-3" in 'Adventure Kayaking, Trips From Big Sur to San Diego, Robert Mohle, Wilderness Press 1998.' Within the marina it is a beginner paddle completely protected from the ocean.

After launching from the public docks proceed to the main channel and turn right. Paddle down each basin. Continuing counter clockwise. This will eventually take you to the breakwater wall. Make a U-turn and paddle back. The first basin on the right when you return from the breakwater wall leads you back to the public docks. Total length is 4.7 miles. For skilled paddlers (intermediate to advanced depending on weather) trek outside the marina turning right towards Venice Pier (1-mile from breakwater) or continue to Santa Monica Pier (about four miles from breakwater) and return.

There is a gas dock as you past the last basin and head towards the breakwater-sodas, snacks. Within the marina you'll see harbor seals, pelicans, gulls. At the breakwater venture to the right (still sheltered) and view the open ocean and Venice Pier in the distance. Dolphins are not uncommon on outside the wall. On the return for the wall you will pass Fisherman's Village on your right. There is always music playing. A great place to get a bite after the paddle.

Parking is $2.00 all day. There is a fresh water rinse area so bring a hose. Launch from the docks.
