My lovely partner dropped me off at La Jolla Shores for an 0900 launch into a rather dumping surf with some good sized swells. My timing was as usual launching at the end of one set just to have about at 10 second delay to the next, even larger set which, by the grace of great gods and wee fishes I was able to barely make it past.
The wind was up to La Jolla point was in my fact and there was a 3-5' swell as predicted. The weather was overcast and the water felt warmer than the air. I paddled out past the outside bouy and met 3 very young seal pups. There were some huge breakers along the way and stayed way to the outside. As I approached Mission Bay I was met, very briefly, by a brace of dolphin apparently feeding who ignored me completely.
I arrived at Aqua Adventures basin where I was greeted by my partner. We visited at Aqua Adventures for a few moments before taking off for food and home.
I miss paddling with my old paddling group but any day on the water is good day. Maybe, over the next year or so we can get up a group down here. Glad your back in the water, Peter.
