We came early to a rising tide at Dan Blocker and juicy 5' sets rolling in. I thought, OK no big deal, Ari paddles a SOT and I can punch through or roll if needed. I always hear Wayne H's voice saying "timing is the most important factor of a good surf launch". After watching a big set roll in we launched and sprinted through the surf zone into a slightly, humid, sometimes light rain paddle to Point Dume.
Not very many people on the water today, it was slightly cool and nice weather for a long paddle. The Great White Shark study pen is not there now so we could not stop and visit. We made good time to point Dume, hung around there for a while and paddled around the point to play in the confused seas. Little Dume had some goods sets breaking out a ways so we watched the horizon as we passed. We had a nice landing and break at Paradise Cove. There were larger sets looming there as well but we landed and launched safely.
We paddled back close to shore dodging incoming sets here and there. As we started our landing at Dan Blocker we were reminded by Neptune with a couple 5' warning shots over the bow that we were still in his arena. They tend to jack up quickly here and are easy to misjudge. I paddled back out and just barely punched back over two 5' footers to re set my approach, I heard Ari give a hoot and a holler as he caught a nice one in to the beach. As I approached a small set caught me from behind so I braced in and we were home safe. The wind had just started to pick up so we made it back just in time.
Another awesome day on the water !!!!!!!
