We ended up hanging around the edge of the seawall off CIH to practice rolling and bracing in some of the sets and turbulence that were coming in. It is normally rough there with any good swell.
I was paddling in back of John with the camera when this big one came off the edge of the seawall. We were not in position to escape being hit. John paddled right into it, the wave it hit him and took him sideways right after I took the shot. He was heading towards me broached, so I let go of the camera grabbed my paddle and did a couple quick sweep strokes in reverse so John missed me as he was swept by me. I wanted to take more photos, but I also like holding my paddle in waves, John kind of disappeared for a few seconds in the whitewater.
John held a strong brace and got a nice ride. I got hit by the edge of the whitewater but was ready for it so we all stayed upright. Peter was just looking at us both saying what good practice it was.
