Castaic Lake Paddle
8 people showed up at 8 am in the brisk 47 degree air of Lake Castaic, well really 9, but we will get to that. Peter, Len, Kathy and Henry, Kirin, Paul Chiang, Mike Brown and Ines, and Paul Jonason. Most went with rash guards, as the water felt like 70 degrees or so.

It started out sunny but soon turned overcast and grew cooler as we paddled towards the back of the lake and the lagoon. The 4 mile paddle back was easy as the water was calm and glassy. Normally the water is quite a bit higher and comes all the way up to the beach, the lagoon was a bit off with the low water being mucky and swampy. We broke there for food and water as Kirin paddled up late. I was surprised he found us as it is easy to take a wrong turn and end up in the wrong lagoon.

On the paddle back we saw a few fisherman with nice large mouth bass, the dreary weather was good for them. It started to rain which is ok with me while kayaking. The few boat wakes that came our way were nice to break up the calm of the lake.

After loading the boats we had lunch at the local fish and chips market which under new ownership proved to be great lunch spot as they served up a great fish & chips, menudo for the brave, and quesadillas. They may just be the best fish and chips in Castaic!

All in all a fun 8 mile paddle and great food with a fun group of paddlers.
