By best count there were 8 in all from CKF, Len Goodman, Steve Holtzman, George Kulakowski, Minnie Kummer, Jay Scully, Tom Rizzulli, Mike Bode, and myself.
After grabbing our cleanup gear which consisted of trash bags, nets, and mechanical tongs, we launched from Mother's Beach which is a well protected area inside the Marina. We were directed to paddle outside the Marina to the Ballona Creek area to grab as much garbage as we could. Of course there was all kinds of interesting items to pickup from bottles and Styrofoam, to cushions, buckets and dead birds.
The water was in the 70s so It was a great day to paddle. After a couple hours we returned with our goodies to be weighed and disposed of. There were some prizes raffled off and a pizza lunch for us on our return. Some prizes were also given for the best and most unusual garbage collected.
Not a bad day overall as it involved paddling! It felt good to help out even though it was a small donation of time on our part, I am sure it helped the overall effect of the Coastal Cleanup Day effort.
