Coronado Circumnavigation
It was a wonderful day for the Coronado circumnavigation. The temperature was warm and there was barely a breeze. The air was so clear we had a beautiful view of the mountains as a backdrop to the tall buildings in downtown San Diego. It may be November, but it felt more like August, and today was a reminder that sea kayaking is a year around sport in Southern California.

Twenty-one kayakers showed up from all over Southern California, including Ventura, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and Orange Counties. And yes, San Diego County was well represented too. Everyone in the group was well prepared and did a great job today. It was a pleasure paddling with them.

From Shelter Island we headed to Ballast Point, were there was a navy patrol boat reminding us on the bullhorn to stay at least 100 yards from shore at the point. We took a break just off the light house at Point Loma. From there we paddled directly to Hotel Del Coronado, where four-foot waves were popping up in the surf zone. A few ending up swimming in the surf zone, but overall the landing went well. The 350 yard portage went quicker and smoother than I thought it would, with most people carrying their kayaks solo. We stopped at the ferry landing for food and conversation, and then it was a race back to Shelter Island. Everyone seemed to have a great time.

Thanks to all who came!
