We paddled west toward Point Dume. Along the way we ran into more dolphin and a few seals. A couple of us were treated to bat rays swimming near the surface. The water was so clear we could look down and see schools of fish swimming below--a small school of barracuda, a school of opal eye and other fish. Bait fish were jumping all over the place.
We paddled past/through the chop at the point to Westward Beach. Because of the dumping surf and steep beach we elected to turn around and go to Paradise Cove.
We paddled more shoreward to Paradise Cove and beached, without incident, just east of the pier. We "rested" and snacked then saddled up to launch--all 10 without problem.
The paddle home was without incident. We landed, one by one, on the fairly crowded beach. Some came straight, some side surfed and a single kelp award for...
We were gone a little under 4 hours---landing about 1315 hours.
The weather was beautiful, the water warm, clear and just fantastic.
Launching at the same time in the morning was a dive class--for a playday of rescue techniques and safety issues. When we landed we were given what I consider to be a great compliment. I was told our group looked professional in the way we orchestrated our launching and landing; the way we launched and landed one-by-one and the way we helped each other.
What a great day on the water--I hope everybody got to enjoy this day as much
as I did. Thanks to those who came--new faces and old faces. I hope we can
enjoy more days like today.
