Point Fermin was a mess. Waves were breaking well in front of the main point and slamming into it. Usually we play in front of it, but on this day we kept a little distance. The play areas between Point Fermin and white point were a little bony, but once behind them they were pretty safe.
Waves were too small (mostly) to stay at Cabrillo and surf. Point Fermin Park had good waves to about 4 to 5 and we caught a few, but was a little to rocky at low tide so we went on to white point before turning around.
In a spot just east of white point that always has about 2x wave height, Jack almost got trashed by the big wave of the day. I didn't see it, but Jack described it as over 10 feet and Hugh just said "really big". We've been getting those occasional big ones recently and they certainly raise your level of awareness.
Once back at Cabrillo we surfed for about another 20 minutes (in the dark) before calling it a day.
Directions: From the 405 Freeway, go south towards San Pedro on the 110 Freeway,
which will end and becomes Gaffey, go left on 22nd Street, go right on Pacific
Avenue, go left on 36th/ Stephen White Street, go left into Cabrillo Park, and
the beach we will be launching from is on the right.
