The 5 foot tide combined with the four foot swell made the usual play area behind white point uninviting. We did a little surfing and a little rock play on the way to Cabrillo beach. once at Cabrillo we were able to catch a few more.
A note on off days: I'm not sure why but my balance was really off. I capsized 4 or 5 times in the surf toward the sea (over leaning). On the way back Vickie and I were able to get behind the point because the tide had dropped to about 1.5 feet. It was very "busy" back there, but safe. Still I managed to capsize again. Anyway, about a month ago I learned my lesson (the hard way of course) not to push too hard if I was having an off day so I took it easy. My roll was ok so I avoided swimming and by backing off a notch I avoided a tumble in the rocks.
A note on white point: Don't launch or land there on tide below about 2 feet
unless the swell is really small. There is a nice little cove to tuck into
at tide over 2' that really doesn't exist much below that.
