Goleta Beach Park
After much discussion re: the weather and numerous e-mails three of us launched into choppys seas through a small surf punctuated by a sharp surf break. The sky was gray and the wind was blowing between 15-20 kt. Prior to launch we were advised my local beach goers that we "were crazy." Albeit!

We paddled for about 1 1/2 hours meeting only a seal, a sea lion who barked us off, a bunch of birds on the water and two gulls noisily advising us of the same as the local beach goers. The wind seemed to pick up in our faces and paddling was a bit of work. After about 4 miles we turned around and went back meeting the same local seal and sea lion as before. The wind and sea were off our rear quarter and this, too, was a bit of work. We engaged in some surfing, a lot of bracing and ruddering strokes.

Just for grins (sure!) I engaged us all in a little impromptu resuce work. A good experience for us all! All's well that ends well.

We landed nicely--no kelp awards today. The wind was up, again, and it was getting a lttle chilly.

I can safely say this was not my day. I went to wash the sand from my boat and somehow got caught in the surf break. Now I needed to wash the inside out, too.

We cleaned up and went into the local restaurant just as the rain started. Good timing.

Overall, it was a good day, though a lot of work against the wind and again with the rear quartering seas with wind waves.
