Cabrillo Beach to King Harbor
Three paddlers launched from Cabrillo Beach in a tiny 1 foot surf and headed West and North to King Harbor.

The day was beautiful despite a 10-15 mph headwind which was unusual with the 8:00 AM launch time. The ocean had slight 1-3 foot wind chop and the water was warm.

After rounding the corner of Point Fermin we headed 7 miles West to Abalone Cove for a lunch break. One of the paddlers wisely ended his trip there after a vigorous paddle into the headwind.

Along the way we paddled through divebombing Pelicans after schooling fish; saw several seals and a small pair of adolescent dolphins. At one point we were discussing shark attacks when a frighten fish jumped in front of my bow. (Why does it always happen when you are talking about sharks?)

At Palos Verdes Point, site of the Dominator shipwreck, we paddled straight across the six miles to King Harbor. Half way across and miles from shore, Harry decided it was a good time to practice his roll.

We landed at the boat dock in King Harbor about 3:30pm. Another beautiful day.

Directions: From the 405 Freeway, go south towards San Pedro on the 110 Freeway, which will end and becomes Gaffey, go left on 22nd Street, go right on Pacific Avenue, go left on 36th/ Stephen White Street, go left into Cabrillo Park, and the beach we will be launching from is on the right.
