Paddle into LA Harbor
This past Saturday, August 25, 13 intrepid CKF paddlers met at Cabrillo State Park in San Pedro at 9:30 AM and by 10:15 were on the water.

The group was comprised of 10 singles, one sit-on-top and one double kayak. We quickly made our way into the main channel and were rapidly caught up in the world's largest commercial seaport. We paddled past giant container ships, tankers and grizzled freighters. At the half way point we took out for a respite at Yacht Haven Cafe for lunch and a tour of a 42' commercial fishing vessel whose owner was interested in serving as a mother-ship for kayakers going over to the Channel Islands.

Shortly thereafter we headed for home and ran into the expected heavy winds as we past the protected area of the main harbor. Though the wind gusts were significant the wave motion remained "only choppy" and all paddlers made it to shore without incident of note.

Afterwards we held a pot luck and entertained the local crowds as we demonstrated the latest "spray skirt mambo" led by Steve and George.

A more detailed report will appear in the Yak.
